The Welsh First Minister has been accused of contempt today as he said Wales had “moved on” from wanting an inquiry into his handling of COVID.

Mark Drakeford came under fire during lockdowns for a series of bizarre policies including ones allowing people to buy a bottle of vodka, but not a baby grow with supermarkets being forced to block non-essential items.

Despite this, Mr Drakeford has repeatedly ignored calls for an inquiry into how COVID was handled in Wales despite Scotland having launched its own separate from the UK.

Covid Bereaved Families for Justice Cymru group have called his comments “insulting” and said it was “not true” that Wales had moved on and even their pocket sub-party, Plaid Cymru, urged Mr Drakeford to think on his words.

Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies wrote to the first minister, and asked him to “either clarify the basis on which your comments were made, or correct the record”.

Mr Drakeford has blocked scrutiny of his responses to COVID at every attempt and is backing a UK-wide inquiry, despite Scotland holding their own. This can only be seen as Mr Drakeford not wanting his actions to be scrutinised at a national level.

One of Mr Drakefords most infamous COVID moments came when he was caught saying “Let’s hope nobody’s bright enough to ask is that ‘should’ as in regulation or ‘should it as in advice’.” after dishing out his latest rules running up to Christmas.

He was also caught lying recently about the fact that Covid Bereaved Families for Justice Cymru, which has about 500 members, would be a key participant in a UK-wide COVID inquiry. Mr Drakeford told the Senedd that he had written to the group “earlier this year supporting their application” but it has emerged he had written no such letter.
