Welsh Gov funnels £3m to Lee Waters former employer for 20mph support

The Labour run Welsh Government has allocated £3,000,000 in funding for cycling charity Sustrans Cymru, which 20mph minister Lee Waters MS previously ran, in an apparent thank you for supporting the 20mph default speed limit change.

The deeply unpopular policy has seen the Welsh Government having to spend millions on public relations including TV adverts and newspaper articles from journalists such as Will Hayward of Wales Online in order to try and sway public opinion to get onboard with the flagship Labour policy.

Almost half a million people have signed a petition calling for its reversal across Wales and it is now going to be reviewed by the Welsh Government, however, the “independent” review will be carried out by the same people who recommended it was implemented leading to calls of the Welsh Government “marking its own homework”.

Allocating the funds to Sustains has prompted questions about conflict of interest from the deputy climate change minister Lee Waters as no other cycling charity or sustainable transport groups have received anything like the same level of funding that Sustains has for its limited operation in Wales.

The Sustrans windfall also comes at a time when the Welsh NHS is being dangerously underfunded by the Welsh Government and child poverty is at record levels with Labour blaming Westminster at the same time as giving nepotistic handouts.
