Baroness Morgan of Ely (better known as Welsh Health Minister Eluned Morgan), the Welsh Labour MP who won’t give nurses a pay rise, has today threatened the Welsh public with a reduction in NHS Services if we don’t start using it properly.
Speaking to BBC about NHS Funding Ms Morgan, who was recently forced to apologise to the Senedd after being banned from driving for repeatedly speeding, said that if the public didn’t stop relying on the NHS so much then “then we will have to have a situation where we’re perhaps offering fewer services”.
This comes as the Welsh Government told nurses that there is no money for a pay rise this year and instead offered them a one-off cash payment, a move likely to be rejected by unions.
Ms Morgan then admitted that many people are not getting the care they deserve. She went on to say: “There are thousands of people receiving excellent care in the NHS in Wales, but what we do accept is that there are many others who are not receiving the care that they deserve.”
This all comes at a time when questions are being asked about the Welsh Government’s financial priorities with £100 million earmarked for more Welsh Ministers that no one needs, around £40 million for 20mph zones that no one wants and £210 million on an airport that barely anyone uses.
Ms Morgans’s threat to withdraw services rather than increase funding is a stab in the back for anyone that voted for Labour in the last Senedd election and rather than find more money but prioritising the NHS, she feels its up to us to use the system less!
